Dinner at Maison e Jardin

I looked up restaurants in Orlando on the Board, and the clear winner seemed to be Maison e Jardin. We really enjoyed ourselves. The decor was a bit much, but the wine list was excellent. The food was OK. We both had Beef Wellington which was virtually raw and a bit soggy, but it did taste good. This is my favorite dish to make, so I am a harsh critic. I am happy, however, to give the chef a few pointers on how to avoid the sogginess. :)

  Ordered off the wine list for $150 at Maison e Jardin in Altamonte Springs, FL. The color is amazingly dark and dense for a 19 year old wine. The nose is pure and strong with scents of bittersweet chocolate and pine needles. The palate was a touch thinner than I expected at first but with time picked up tons of weight. Also with it continues to become sweeter and sweeter. By the end of the night it was bordering on being too sweet. The massive amounts of fruit smell like very ripe blackberries with a touch of shaved chocolate. There is a strong tannic backbone, but the fruit does its best to obscure it. This wine certainly has the fruit and tannic to last, but it was a bit clunky tonight. I hope to taste another bottle in 10 years.

We had a lovely, romantic table with attentive service. Our waiter did not know much about wine, but he professionally decanted the wine. I would eat here again.
