  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru

  Bright gold tinged with green.
  Citrus nose with vanilla notes.
  Fruity grapefruit with some oak evident, medium length, would benefit from another couple of years in the cellar.

  Bright greenish gold.
  A vegetal nose with citrus and vanilla.
  Juicy fruit, a simple wine, ready now.

  Deep greenish gold.
  Slightly oxidised nose with mixed fruits.
  Fruity, concentrated, soft, good acidity, ready now.

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Santenay 1er Cru

  Quite dark.
  Treacly nose, oxidised.
  Grapefruit attack, but a feeling this wine is past its best.

• 2000 Fernand & Laurent Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru

  The vegetal nose hides anything else beneath.
  A sweet feel to this wine, there's oak - and fruit if you're patient, definitely a classy wine which will continue to develop over a few years.

  Medium gold.
  An oaky nose with melon and vegetal notes.
  An elegant wine, good acidity, warm.

• 2000 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru

  Quite a light colour.
  A nose revealing meadow grass, rich fruit and oak.
  Rich concentrated fruit, great acidity but needs years to come into balance.

  Deep colour.
  A mixed fruit nose, raisins, prunes, stewed apples and honey.
  Fruity attack with good acidity, lacking concentration.
