Great, terroir-driven nose of warm gravel and char. Opulent, subtle and elegant with lovely flavors of scorched earth, dark fruits, dark spices and a hint of charred meat. Medium-bodied but feeling like it holds a lot in reserve with good density and sweet but firm tannins. The finish is already quite complex and showing just a bit of secondary development. More open-knit and perhaps less precise than the La Miss but drinking beautifully tonight with aged sweet dark red fruits, soft tannins and good acids. Wow, did this surprise me as it shows none of the flaws of this hard vintage. Showing some maturity on the color with a complex nose of green tobacco, wild red fruits and such an array of complex spices. Full-bodied yet soft and exotically voluptuous, it just kept improving in the glass and was absolutely delicious to drink tonight. The finish is wildly complex with lovely sweet tannins and good acids. Just fantastic and made in an old, sort of rustic style that makes it unique and animalistic. Wow! Geneva 2/14
A monumental wine in every respect - the nose is showing hints of dark currants, smoked meats, cedar and Asian spices. On the palate, this is full-bodied and opulent with just that sheen of first-growth quality about it. Deep and dense with flavors of black currants, cedar and spice that lead to a powerful, chiseled-rock finish. Still quite youthful and not showing the complexity to come but this big, balanced, classy wine should ultimately take its place as one of the all-time great Moutons. 97+ Geneva 2/14
Incredible dark ruby color. With swirling and time in the glass, the earthy, nutty, cedar nose of Latour begins to show itself. On the palate, the breed and class this wine exudes is just amazing. With a texture like silken granite, this very young wine shows wonderful flavors of dark fruits, cedar and walnut with leathers and spices and an incredible depth that hints at the glories to come as this wine approaches maturity over the next 50 years! Deeply concentrated on the laser-like finish, this wine shows such precision and focus that virtually guarantees it will reach 100 pts. as soon as the secondary flavor development moves further along. Full-bodied and still quite structured with lots of acidity and rustic tannins enveloped by sweet dark aged fruits, this is a fairly full-bodied, rich wine showing great complexity on the finish with notes of truffles and forest floor. Fantasticly complex nose of old wood, dark fruits and dried flowers. On the 86-year-old palate, there is still incredibly rich, ripe dark fruits along with a gritty yet sweet tannins. Still structured but also exotic and complex, this is one amazing wine to drink for its youthful fruit and silky intensity. The finish is quite dry and complex with notes of tobacco and ripe berries and that wonderful floral component on the nose that lingers on the palate. Ready to drink now but the structure and balance should keep it fresh for some time. Wow! Geneva 2/14
Great black ruby color. Incredible nose of the most pungent black spices and minerals with that telltale hint of violets. On the palate, it needed some time to unfold but it is a wine that defies description but I will nevertheless try: it has a velvety mouthfeel with a steel-like structure the juxta-position of which is incredible. There are layers of dark blue fruits with a depth and density to the middle-palate which is simply hard to comprehend. Great tannic structure shows up on the finish which is again silky and so elegant and then the final wave of complexity appears with fabulous potent notes of black minerals, spices and floral violets. Utterly seamless and seemingly built for eternity yet it has also reached its plateau. How can a wine be so fresh, powerful and elegant at 86 years of age?!?! So so perfect and easily one of the 5 greatest wines I've ever tasted. Geneva 2/14
