Dark garnet, dense color, a little bricking but very youthful appearance; sandy, wet earth, autumnal, cigar, stank, some red currant, green pepper; palate is larger and more tannic but a bit lean in the amount of fruit, leather, cigar, some nobility; good especially for its age- people guessed early 2000s.

Darker core with reddish rim; sour cherry, menthol, roses, cedar; grainy, dry, pure cherry, ripe, slightly exotic, still firmly classic Nebbiolo; drinks a bit older than '04; very good though.

Black core with brownish red rim; cinnamon, rusty nail, raw meat, iron, hint of graham cracker, tar, hints of soy and caraway; softer tannin, sandalwood, leather, darker fruit, almost date, a certain sweetness to it; have liked this in the past; hard to recognize because it has a lot of Old World characteristics; seemed to be closing in fast on the end of its drinking window.

Black almost to rim, tiny purple ruby rim; tar, pen ink, menthol, herbal Jagermeister note, plum, huckleberry, blackberry; thick wall of tannin, certain juiciness, black tea, sweet wood, camphor, ash, lower alcohol, slight bitter finish; seemingly young Old-World Syrah; really well done Aussie with its sweetness, ripeness, and alcohol in check; I would consider buying this if it weren't so expensive.

Pretty red ruby; red sour cherry, pure, tart and taut with a good dose of fat; sour on palate, limestone, cherry, leaner midpalate, satisfying finish; a little one dimensional but very good.

Pretty see through ruby red with onion skin rim; somber rose and cherry, some game, a little menthol, red licorice; low toned on palate with red fruit, higher acid, orange, cherry, structured, pretty now with good potential, cedar and some dry tannin on finish, slightly bitter note, elegant but also very masculine; confused for Barolo yet again.

Darker core with ruby rim; Bordeaux like stank, hint of Brett, darker fruit, Brett cuts off the fruit, harsh tannin really stands out; I'll reserve judgment for a cleaner bottle.

Semi-translucent dark ruby; vanilla, red berry, red currant, green pepper, red pepper, nice balance of Old and New World styling; fresh and tasty red fruit, not given enough air to really bring out the tobacco and prune; definitely a lighter Amarone with many producers' Ripassos and regular Valpolicellas being better...then again more expensive as well.

Translucent dark ruby with some bricking; red fruit, rose, tar, cedar; slight bitterness, elegant, sexy, tart red fruit, good tannin wrap; classic and old school BdM; try again in a couple years as this should improve.

Round, green apple, brown baking spice, cleaner, not sharp or austere, was hoping for a bit more verve but this was tasty.

2005 Château Brisson
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux
I really liked the nose which showed cigar, classic Bordeaux stank, rich and thick; palate is lighter with tannin that would be nice to resolve in the next couple years but not sure it would maintain balance; nice QPR.

2011 Domaine Lafage Cuvée Nicolas Vieilles Vignes de Grenache
France, Languedoc Roussillon
Semi-translucent pretty dark ruby; deep nose, smoky, dark cherry, raspberry, pomegranate, a little vanilla; softer mouthfeel with air, good density from the old vines, schist, sappy but not sweet, tart and bitter on the finish; good, would like to see in a couple years; great QPR.

2005 Weingut Johann Peter Reinert Kanzemer Sonnenberg Riesling Großes Gewächs
Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Light amber; honey, tangerine, orange blossom, lime pith; very sour, high acid, ginger, seemingly sweet and sugary, good density, sourness is buffered by the good fruit.
