An odd bottle. Lots of ripe fruit but not very friendly or forthcoming, not really like many of the 2005s I have tried recently. This never really became more engaging, instead came across as more backward. Peter thought this might be slightly corked, and while I didn't think it was, I certainly wasn't sure.

Rich and intense fruit front-and-center, amazingly for a wine this age. Lots of butterscotch started coming through once open and poured 15 minutes, but this stayed lush and vibrant for 2+ hours.
One of the best bottles of this wine I've tried over the past few years. Unmistakably Vosne aromas with mature crushed red fruit , lots of sweet baking spice and dried rose petal hints. While clearly mature, this wasn't as advanced as other recent bottles. If served blind, I'd have struggled identifying the vintage, but it certainly didn't show 2004's all-too-common green or pyrazine character. Very good with moderate density and length.

Open approx 2 hours before serving. Lots of black fruit with good meaty spice throughout and a clear sense of animale. A very balanced 2006 with very good persistence. If asked to evaluate this wine without context of appellation, I'd say it is a great success, probably around 92 points. But if served blind, I'd have confidently and incorrectly thought this from Gevrey, so for me this a slightly less successful Clos de la Roche.

1980 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Gouttes d'Or 92 Points

2004 Domaine Leroy Vosne-Romanée 92 Points
