An absolutely captivating nose of cherry, cedar, leather, and herbs. Very refined, plush mouthfeel, black cherry and raspberry. Lots of very fine tannin. Yum!
Perfumed cherry, earthy, sweet-spice nose, though very tight. Very structured and somewhat backward with loads of (approachable) tannin, medium-plus acid, ripe fruit, tobacco, spice, and cedar. A single sip after two hours of air was more approachable. Very pretty, but way too young. Very very good.
The aromatics are beautiful; red fruit, spice. Attack was surprisingly sweet, of candied cherries. With time in the glass, the candied nature receded, revealing more finesse and complexity.
[I did not get a look at the vintage, but am pretty sure it was the 2005.] Dark fruit, pepper, anise, meat, sage. Very approachable. Quite nice; this is under $20?
