Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2011 J.A. Ferret Pouilly-Fuissé 86 Points

    France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Pouilly-Fuissé

    Clear, medium lemon green. On the nose, greengage, green apple, lemon sorbet. Medium (plus) finish with mineral notes. Medium plus, refreshing acidity. Fruit forward. As I understand, no new oak used. Good, if not particularly complex.

  • 2011 J.A. Ferret Pouilly-Fuissé Le Clos Tête de Cru 89 Points

    France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Pouilly-Fuissé

    Clear medium lemon green. Compared with Autour de Fuisse, more fruit and riper, showing even tropical fruit note, on top of lemon, citrus peel. Judicious use of oak gives slight caramel note, rounder mouth feel. (30% new oak). Medium plus finish with mineral note. Good acidity backbone. Quite complex.

Flight 2 (3 Notes)

  • 2011 Louis Jadot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières 93 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

    Clear, medium lemon-green. On the nose, sweet praline, butter, vanilla on top of lemon, citrus peel, green apple, herbaceous notes. Very complex. Very integrated oak. Palate similar to the nose, with very long finish. Medium plus, fresh acidity that reminds me of the 2007 vintage. Well-balanced. Elegant and yet at the same time powerful. Showing very well now, but can hold easily for another decade. For me, the best white of the night.

  • 2011 Louis Jadot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Clos de la Chapelle Domaine du Duc de Magenta

    The weakest link among this flight. Medium lemon-green. Slight hazy. The wine has not been fined. On the nose, not particularly expressive. Notes of lemon, green apple, oak. Could it be it's closed at the moment? On the palate, medium plus to high acidity. I have the feeling probably the lack of fruit accentuates the acidity. At 13.5% abv, it doesn't taste alcoholic at all, a plus. Finish OK. Not as precise as the other two wines in the flight.

  • 2011 Louis Jadot Corton-Charlemagne Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot 91 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

    This is a close second for me in this flight. Medium lemon-green. Not as generous as Les Folatieres. While the former is all about sweet buttery, praline notes, this one is all about mineral notes: wet stone, flint, smoke on top of citrus and green apple. Well-integrated oak. Highest acidity among the three in this flight. Very long finish with mineral notes. One of the guest speakers commented its similarity with a Grand Cru Chablis, which I concur. For long haul.

Flight 3 (1 Note)

  • 2004 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Grèves Blanc 90 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

    The only wine in this flight showing how well it has aged for a off vintage like 2004. Medium (plus) lemon-green. On the nose, citrus peel, lemon, hint of mushroom, butter, nutty notes. Medium plus acidity with medium plus finish. At peak, but still full of life. Can hold for another 3 to 5 years. Contrary to Bressande that shows well when young, Les Greves seems to be a late boomer.

  • 2011 Louis Jadot Moulin-à-Vent Château des Jacques 88 Points

    France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Moulin-à-Vent

    Medium plus ruby core, fading to slight pinkish rim. Pretty nose with notes of rose petal, red and even dark fruit. I would have thought it would show green, unripe notes. The granitic, stony soil must have retained heat well for a cool year like 2011. Medium plus acidity, medium plus finish. Velvety tannins. To be enjoyed within the next 5 years.

  • 2011 Louis Jadot Moulin-à-Vent Clos de Rochegrès Château des Jacques 91 Points

    Deep ruby core, slight pinkish core. Nose of dark fruit, even some dried strawberry, baking spice. It's starting to develop some tertiary aromas. I picked up notes of mushroom, etc. Well-integrated oak. Medium acidity and medium plus finish. Velvety tannins. My favourite in this flight.

  • 1999 Louis Jadot Moulin-à-Vent Clos de Rochegrès Château des Jacques 91 Points

    France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Moulin-à-Vent

    Brickish core fading to slight watery rim. Quite a bit sediment in my glass. I would decant it first and serve right away. But what a nose: dried fruit, date, baking spice, black cardamom, medicinal, savoury notes such as soy, etc. A bit too evolved for my taste. Tannins still quite firm, but ripe. Medium plus acidity and finish.

  • 2011 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot 88 Points

    Medium ruby core, fading to slight watery rim. On the nose, red cherry, strawberry, hint of oak and vanilla, slight confected at this stage. Medium bodied. Medium plus acidity and finish. A solid good wine, if not particularly complex.

  • 2011 Louis Jadot Corton-Pougets Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot 91 Points

    It's educational to taste the wine side by side with Clos des Ursules from the same year. For me, the Corton-Pougets (Le Charlemagne is just a stone throw away) shows more mineral notes on top of red fruit, rose petal, baking spice. Medium (plus) body. Medium plus acidity gives structure to the wine. Velvety tannins. Medium plus finish. Needs time.

  • 2001 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot 88 Points

    Slight brickish core fading to slight watery rim, a tad lighter than Corton-Pouget in the flight. On the nose, starting to show more tertiary aromas, such as leather, on top of dried fruit. There is a slight honey note. Not as complex as the Corton. On the palate, medium plus acidity, medium bodied. Velvety tannins. Probably should be drunk with the next three years as the fruit seems to have dried out a bit over the years.

  • 2001 Louis Jadot Corton-Pougets Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot 92 Points

    My favourite in this flight. Slight brickish core fading to slight watery rim. Just a tad darker than Clos des Ursules from the same year. On the nose, dried fruit such as dried strawberry, red fruit, baking spice, herbal notes, medicinal, smoke. Palate similar to the nose, with long finish. Good concentration. Medium plus body. Medium plus acidity. Long finish. At peak.

  • 2006 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot 89 Points

    Medium minus ruby core, fading to slight watery rim. Interesting nose showing a lot of smoke, paprika, red fruit, such as red cherry, dried strawberry, pepper jelly note. On the palate, silky tannins, medium plus acidity, medium (plus) finish. Peaking.

  • 2006 Louis Jadot Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes 89 Points

    Slight deeper hue than Clos des Ursules in the flight. Nose somewhat shy at the moment. Notes of red fruit, mineral, etc. On the palate, silky tannins, medium plus acidity and finish. Elegant. Needs time.

  • 2006 Louis Jadot Chapelle-Chambertin Domaine Louis Jadot 92 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru

    Appearance: deepest among the three in this flight. On the nose, closed at first, then reveal notes of red currant, strawberry and even dark fruit, such as black cherry. For me, the palate is the winner in this flight. The most concentrated among the three, with firm but ripe tannins. Medium plus acidity Long finish. Powerful, and yet well-balanced. Still young. Ideally should be put away for at least another 5 years.
