Introduction

Well planned, much anticipation...

Flight 1 - The Wines (5 Notes)

With only potato chips (crisps) as food, we still enjoyed this great evening VERY much.

  • 2011 Bodegas Carchelo (Agapito Rico) Jumilla Vedré "V" 75 Points

    Spain, Murcia, Jumilla

    Now this wine is very sweet to be a red wine... Difficult to enjoy. This is really poor.
    Has chocolatey aromas and a fine, smokey oak character in the tail. But this is not a very good wine. Sorry.

  • 2009 Château Mont-Redon Côtes du Rhône 87 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône

    Aged grapes, giving a slight unpleasant or "un-fresh" feeling. Giving a rather thin impression today, singing in a small voice. However. This wine is well balanced, elegant and complete as far as structure is concerned. But it does need more omph. Hoping that the Syrah can wake up more and take the lead.
    2 btls to go, next one 2015.

  • 2006 Domaine Pichard Madiran 91 Points

    France, Southwest France, Madiran

    Early maturity is here so let's rejoice. This is coming around nicely.
    Very complex and layered nose: Barnyard, cumin, slight iodine character, brown loam and toffee.
    In the mouth you get the aromas again, with the addition of maturing fruit. Acids M+, tannins M++. Superbly balanced and long. This is little rustic but not at all disturbingly so.
    Me like!
    5th btl and two to go. Will try really hard to keep the next one for a number of years.

  • 2010 Château Barréjat Madiran Cuvée des Vieux Ceps 93 Points

    What a wine! Much more accessible than the vintage and AOC Madiran would lead you to believe.

    Complex, large and enchanting nose with blood oranges, a good lashing of oak, sumi ink, red berries and butter.
    In the mouth, it is a very fine Bordeaux wine. Long, great, exceptionally well balanced and complex. Has the stuffing for a pretty long life. Tannin M++, Acids M+. Refined, wide, complex...
    Tannin (still) hiding behind the fruit.
    Wish I had a case or two.

  • 2004 Torbreck Descendant Flawed

    Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

    Had unusual and synthetic flavors of old style strawberry cordial and strawberry chewing gum (Swe: "Bugg"). Non-integrated wine that was a sublime face-plant.

    Our recent btl was soooo much better.
    This was our final btl.
