• 2005 Two Hands Grenache Yesterday's Hero 85 Points

  Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

  Nose of mulberries and rosemary, almost piney. Blackberries, spices, and American oak on palate. Nice, long finish with balanced acidity. Body is medium, and alcohol does not show. Somewhat simple, yet pleasant.

• 2005 Two Hands Brave Faces 90 Points

  Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

  Beautiful purple colour. Blackberries, red plum, and eucalyptus on the nose. Wild berries, black pepper, and strawberry liquer make up the palate. Soft tannins and heavier viscosity than the 1st wine. Better, still not overly impressed.

• 2005 Two Hands The Bull and The Bear 85 Points

  Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

  Brighter nose of black raspberries and strawberries with a hint of pepper. Not as jammy either. Raspberries, black pepper, oak spice on the palate. Finishes with a bit of tannins, fuller body, and softer acidity.

• 2005 Two Hands Shiraz Bad Impersonator 84 Points

  Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

  Huge whaff of new American oak and vanilla. Some black plums are lingering in there, but are overpowered by the oak. Again on the palate is a huge dose of American oak, vanilla, spices, and a good amount of tannin. Blackberries and cherries are the fruits, but come through only a bit towards the end. Definitely has a nicer, richer mouthfeel and longer finish.

• 2005 Two Hands Shiraz Lily's Garden 86 Points

  Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale

  Raspberry liqueur and mint on the nose. Palate is of blackberries, spicy oak, pepper, and finishes with jammy red plums. Sound familiar?? Again not distinguishing itself from the previous wines tasted. Maybe a bit more concentrated, but with no greater depth or structure.

• 2005 Two Hands Shiraz Harry & Edward's Garden 89 Points

  Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, Langhorne Creek

  First wine to show its alcohol content. Loads of American oak, raspberries, and mint on nose. Pepper, raspberry jam, and better tannin structure than the previous wines.

• 2005 Two Hands Shiraz Max's Garden 92 Points

  Australia, Victoria, Central Victoria, Heathcote

  First one that really impressed. Deeper purple colour. Tons of eucalyptus on nose along with raspberry jam and vanilla mocha. Liqueur-like consistency with darker plum fruits, wild berries, and some nice tannin structure. Somewhat complex, definitely full bodied, and balanced acidity made for a serious wine.

• 2004 Two Hands Grenache Aerope 86 Points

  Probably biggest let down of night. Expected much more as far as complexity, weight, and structure. A bit richer than the previous wines with ripe red cherries, softer acidity, and a greater presence of oak. The nose was also held back a bit and was subtle.

• 2004 Two Hands Shiraz Ares 92 Points

  This is a big boy. Black and dense in colour. Blackberries, smoke, and oak explode from glass. Probably the most pleasant aromatics of the evening. Mint, blackberry jam, vanilla and cedar are the flavor profiles on the palate. Tannins were definitely present, yet not obtrusive. Evolved in the glass a bit. Probably age worthy.

• 2006 Two Hands Moscato Brilliant Disguise 84 Points

  d'asti in style; semi-sparkling. Mango, pineapple, and papaya on nose as well as palate. Decent acidity and mouthfeel. Fine overall, but definitely nothing special.

• 2005 Two Hands Sémillon For Love Or Money 79 Points

  Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

  Deep, rich golden colour. Nose is huge with creme caramel, peanut brittle, and obvious botrytis. Palate is syrupy, richly cloying, and flabby. No acidity is present whatsoever, otherwise it would redeem higher marks. Wish the palate followed through as well as the nose.

At the end of this tasting, I encountered little difference from one wine to the next. Perfect example of Parkerized wines. Huge, in your face, extracted fruits, and concentration. These wines show no complexity, no structure, and forget about food friendly. Complete and utter let down.
