  • 2003 Torbreck The Factor 92 Points

Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

Crimson color, just a little bricking. Opens with a meaty aroma then herbs, pepper, dark fruit and spice. Tannins are softened and there's just a bit of oak still showing through. Flavors of meat, red fruit and spice. Finishes well. Guessed N. Rhone.

Flight 2 - II. Blind themed flight. (8 Notes)

It became fairly obvious early on that these were Pinots, though a bit older than I would have guessed.

Flight 3 - III. Nonblind dinner & dessert wines. (11 Notes)

  • 1985 P. Dubreuil-Fontaine Père & Fils Corton-Clos du Roi 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

Courtesy of N, this did not last long in the glass but was damn beautiful for half an hour or so. Cherry and red fruit notes give way to florals then earth, forest floor, cinnamon and spice and back to florals. Fresh and lively at first, with nice acid and flavors of red fruit, earth and cherry, turning slightly sour as it declined. Drink now. 92-93 pts.

Faded crimson core with a good bit of bricking. Aroams of spice, perfume, florals, white currants and red fruit. Very well-balanced, with plenty of fruit remaining; currants, prune, cherry and floral qualities, with a dusty/earthy note on the finish. Lovely.

  • 1990 E. Guigal Hermitage 93 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

My first tatse, poured just a couple of minutes after the bottle was opened, was uninspiring to say the least. It displayed a dominant ash overtone, with weedy red fruit underneath. About thirty minutes later, Domino poured a glass- meat, red fruit, pepper, spice and dark fruit aromas. Red fruit, roasted game and pepper flavors on the palate. Long finish with plenty of fruit. Give this a brief decant or some time in the glass to open. Drinking extremely well with a bit of air.
