Introduction

Staete Landt wine tasting and I popped a bottle of aged Auslese.

  • 2012 Staete Landt Sauvignon Blanc Annabel

    New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough

    Classic aromatic SB nose with grassy notes and gooseberries. On the palate, nectarines and citrus fruit with a bit of minerality. This supposedly has been oaked slightly, but I hardly detected the oak component.

  • 2009 Staete Landt Sauvignon Blanc Duchess

    New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough

    Intense aromatic nose with aromas of caramel and flowery scents. On the palate, strong dairy flavour, with caramel cream and fresh citrus fruit flavours also. Extra time in barrel and lees stirring have created this interesting Sauvignon Blanc with these malolactic fermentation flavours.
    However, with about an hour+ of air, this seemed to develop back into a typical SB nose, and sour mango flavour on the palate.

  • 2010 Staete Landt Chardonnay Josephine

    New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough

    Oak and citrus fruit on the nose. On the palate, nice texture and rounded mouth-feel, with flavours of creamy oak and citrus fruits. Balanced elegant Chardonnay.

  • 2010 Staete Landt Pinot Noir Paladin

    New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough

    Strong nose of ripe cherries and cranberries. On the palate, loads of red fruit with some earth and spices. Medium- tannins on a medium body. Fruit forward medium bodied NZ Pinot Noir from Marlborough.

  • 2010 Staete Landt Syrah Arié

    New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough

    Nose of dark fruits and spice. On the palate, blackberries, plums, and pepper spice. Full bodied and big tannins, with good acidity. Still young, this tasted a bit smoother when poured through the Vinturi.

  • 2005 Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese #6 93 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

    Appearance is clear, deep intensity, gold colour.
    Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas of nectar and flowers ?honeysuckle. With more air, the aromas of petrol and kerosene became more obvious.
    On the palate, medium sweetness, high acidity, full body, long finish, with flavours of honey nectar, cantaloupe, and malt sugar.
    This will only develop even more complexity with age. Keep another 5-10 years!
