Comte Abbatucci (Corsica)-The Most Interesting Wines in the World

I'm only half joking about this. Even after a day of tasting high end Burgundy, these had amazing complexity and interest, and they seem to transport you to the wilds of Corsica.

• 2012 Domaine Comte Abbatucci Faustine Blanc Vieilles Vignes

  France, Corsica, Vin de France

  Medium yellow. Pungently floral nose. Medium weight. Flowers and citrus in the mouth, perky acidity. Slightly austere finish.

• 2012 Domaine Comte Abbatucci Cuvée Collection Il Cavaliere Diplomate d'Empire

  France, Corsica, Vin de France

  Lighter color than the Faustine. All green herbs, thyme aromas. Full bodied, herbaceous with citrus in the background. A wild, untamed nature. Great texture with a rising, strongly mineral finish. So interesting in that it starts with glycerine and sweet fruit but ends up totally dry.

• 2012 Domaine Comte Abbatucci Cuvée Collection Général de la Révolution

  France, Corsica, Vin de France

  Medium yellow. Deeper pitched, more restrained nose than the Cavaliere. Delicious bitter citrus fruit, real density and chock full of soil. Exceptional complexity and earthy finish. Completely impressive.

• 2010 Domaine Comte Abbatucci Faustine

  France, Corsica, Ajaccio

  Perfumed and intensely herbal. Creosote and oregano. Lighter red. Supple and spicy with a little white pepper and wonderfully soil-filled finish. Beautiful combination of light red fruit and garrigue. Slight bitterness on the finish suggests it could even get better in a year or two. Bring on the lamb for this one!

• 2012 Domaine Comte Abbatucci Cuvée Collection "Ministre Imperial"

  France, Corsica, Vin de France

  Light red with a pale edge. Unusual nose of herbs and licorice that I cannot quite describe, but it is very fragrant. Light weight but incredibly penetrating black and blue fruit. Impressive intensity for its weight. Extraordinarily interesting, good acidic lift at the end.
