Lots of stone fruit and subtle new oak spice aromas. Stone fruit flavors, some tropical hints and a hint of marzipan. Long, powerful, forward. At a good place now.

It's a rare treat to see the old Charles Mortet wines, and this didn't disappoint. More earthy aromas and flavors than fruit, but there is still mature red cherry and strawberry coming through nicely. Nice background spice, very well textured and transparent as Chambolle.

Popped and poured. Lots of black fruit with background Asian spice. Still fresh to start, but less interesting when finished 60 minutes later.

Open 3-4 hours before serving. Black fruit flavors and aromas, slightly woodsy. Firm structure but with the concentration to balance.

Bottle had been opened a few days earlier, then cork fully reinserted several hours later. Still large scaled and firm, in that classic old Gouges style with robust and concentrated black fruit and assertive tannins on the moderately long finish. Around "90 points" tonight, but quite possibly not representative of a bottle opened and consumed in more typical timeframes.
