Leon's
Tasted Sunday, March 9, 2014 by AllRed with 701 views
The 2nd Sunday group gathered for the normal double blind tasting. For this group, we are presented some whites, double blind, as warm ups before the main flight. The whites are discussed & unveiled before moving on to the themed main flight. We spend thirty to forty five minutes or so tasting and evaluating the wines for the main flight before ranking the wines and then making guesses on what we were tasting. Wines are ranked 1-8 and then unveiled from last place to first place. After the tasting, dinner is served with the additional wines brought by the group, nonblind.
All are shown in the order tasted. For this tasting, we had 8 tasters and the cost was $40.
Just about everyone settled on Bordeaux fairly quickly. Taken as a group, they were tight, structured and backward. I would recommend holding these wines for quite a few years- perhaps to 2019.
2011 E. Guigal Côtes du Rhône Blanc
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône
Slight grassy note with a melon overtone. Lots of glycerin, with a rich, heavy texture and flavors of melon and white fruit ending with almond and a slight bitter quality. Guessed Semillon blend.

2010 Tranche Cellars Slice of Pape Blanc Blue Mountain Vineyard 90 Points
USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley
Light yellow color. Stone and floral notes. Bright acidity on the palate giving lift to the apple, melon and citrus flavors. Nice finish. Guessed Rhone blend.
