Close to volatile but still alive and drinkable. I'm convinced that more than heat, absence of light and a good humidity are essential for bottle preservation. Guatemala is an example for this minor Chateaux of a lesser vintage...
A beauty colour between crimson and light brown.
Slight aromas of cherries and sandalwood.
Surely a no-surprise for St.Emilion lovers, a robust palate is showed with firm tannins and good acidity. Stunning for me indeed.
Also a very low level of sediments.
Pairing very well some Guatemalans dishes at restaurant Las Antorchas in Antigua.
Suaves aromas a cerezas y sándalo.

Nice surprise having lunch at ristorante Pecorino in Guatemala City.
Lovely ethereal burgundian colour.
That's a real Barbaresco nose! Aromas of violets, lactic, meaty, mineral,...all in small doses for a generic bottle.
Dry mouth, as Barbaresco used to be before this Gaja era, also long and sweet acid.
Total absence of sediments.
Return to last '70s, when we were young...and innocent. Stunning revival.

From half bottle.
Profound violet colour for aromas of red fruits aromas with unrefined smoke.
Disgusting plastic strawberries taste. Bitter and quite long for what it is... There were better vintages, think so.
Matching sincronizadas at Casa Amelia in Flores.

Understood. If this is what we have to consider as a NW Claret, full house!
Aromatic but clearly marked by sweet oak. Little artificial I think.
Palate is soft, medicinal and a bit tannic cause that oak aromas.
Please Francis family, change that name...
Entendido.

Having latte supper at Capital Bistro Panama. Quite deceptively salty scallops yet balanced with sweet cucumber sauce (green watermelon?), that softie, incompressible defrosted pargo fish and a nice lemon pie. Breathtaking views too.
About the wine, first of all nobody can speak a single word about the colour because obscurity is what this people want in their local. A place for your senses excepting view.
Typically NZ SB nose of fennel, sap and that cornstarch aroma.
Also a citrus touch.
On the palate it is refreshing and sortie yet with that piquant point always pleasant.
We forgive that absence of cork.

As aperitif starting dinner at Capital Bistro Panama.
Overall a nice fortified wine despite that ridiculous glass didn't help.

BYO Sushi House at Marbella place.
Pairing nicely assorted tempura -including lovely banana-, Vegas rolls and thick sashimi slices.
Typical cherry colour for an american PN.
Full aromatic but with elegance. Oak very well integrated.
Little acidic and maybe alcoholic, my palate founded before my eyes, what a minimalistic 14,5%!
Probably five more years are needed...

Part of the Los Añejos lounge offert at Aurora airport in Guatemala.
Obscure as hell. Pitch-black is a good definition. Purple edges if there're so.
Muted nose, perhaps that glass didn't help...
Monolithic varietal taste. A little medicinal too.
Far away of my interest.

Nobody can convince me that Sherry, in any version, wasn't invented for airplanes.
Pungent and salty was a hopeful start for my journey.

Light lime colour
Richly floral on the nose. Sightly mineral.
Muted palate is followed for an astringent factor because by flying?
With more time flawed. I'm not sure Alvariño is an option for air companies.
A pity! I've had this one in a very different way.
Color ligero a lima.
Ricamente floral en nariz. Ligeramente mineral.

Blackish colour
Timid oaky nose of plums and black fruit
That same oak helped on the palate showing some sweetness.
For easy drinkers, why not?
Color anegrado

Can a dessert wine served in a plane be flawed because useless?
Afraid so.
Artificial yellow neon colour.
Atypical closed nose.
Little orange peel on the palate. That's all.

NV Gonzalez-Byass Palomino Fino Jerez-Xérès-Sherry Tío Pepe (Muy Seco-Extra Dry)
Spain, Andalucía, Jerez-Xérès-Sherry
(3/8/2014)
Part of the Iberia first class service flying to Guatemala.
More oxidative and less nutty nor saline than usual, all of what isn't a defect in my view.
As you perfectly know, fortified wines were made for plane meals.
If you went for salt try those bloody chips, what a f#ck!

(3/8/2014)
Easy to know this is a Rueda wine, well characteristic with an anise and fine pastry goods attack on the nose.
Like its depth.
Little short on the palate anyway missing that typical bitter length.

Fantastic aroma of raisins and figs.
Easy drink pairing perfectly well orange dessert.
Nothing glorious anyway but a honest PX with a good length.
Fantástico aroma a pasas e higos

2008 Vetus Toro
Spain, Castilla y León, Toro
(3/8/2014)
Part of the Iberia first class service flying to Guatemala
Obscure violet colour with orange edges.
Interesting mineral nose of chalk, liquorice, smoked sausage, ...
On the palate an authentic six years on Toro wine.
A Part of Izadi group winery to watch.
Color violeta oscuro con bordes naranjas.
Interesante nariz mineral a pizarra, a regaliz, a salchicha ahumada,...

2009 C.V.N.E. (Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España) Rioja Viña Real Reserva
Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja
(3/8/2014)
Part of the Iberia first class service flying to Guatemala
Obscure violet colour.
Horrible nose if grannie perfume and humid wood.
Watery mouthfeel. Fresh raspberry, quite acid palate.
Altered perception cause flying?
Violeta oscuro
