Introduction
Ridge Geyserville and Lytton Springs Tasting by CAV, Brussels.
Flight 1 (11 Notes)
Over-all I seemed to favour Geyserville in years with more concentration and heat and Lytton Springs in years where the wines were allowed to show more elegance.
I could not believe that the 2010 are from the same grower/vineyards as the previous vintages. I found a total shift of the anathomy of the wines in 2010 - which were greatly improved and showed a cooler more elegant side and at the same time showed great fruit concentration. What happened between 2008 and 2010???
1994 Ridge Zinfandel Lytton Estate 88 Points

Almost brick color.
Dark, raw fruit of red orange, vanilla, mature notes; earthy on the nose.
On the palate medium body, round fruit with an unbalanced acidity and some wood tannins marking it with an unbalanced end impression. Should have been drunk although I imagine this has always given an overoaked impression.

Brick colour. Very developed on the nose, dark fruit but gives a clumsy impression with a heavy mouthfeel and an unwanted woody impression.

Rather similar to the Lytton Springs 1995 but with the nice and noticeable different of displaying fine minerality and roses.

Almost brick colour.
Typical Zin nose, fur, dark berries.
Not as concentrated as the 1995's although with a jammy finish.

rather neutral and daft tones without showing depth in the fruit at this stage. Nothing to get very excited about right now. Hold.

Sour juice (cherry) tones on the nose.
On the palate tastes very hot jammy albeit with high acidity (added?). In a very sour mood right now.

Very good acidity and fruit. Less cool and a bit jammier than the Lytton Springs 2010 but very balanced and nice.

Gives a cool impression which I like. Crazy good acidity combined with top but balanced fruit. Good now! My WOTN!
