Introduction

Been wanting to do this for years. I have had all of these wines many times, but never together and never single blind. This was a lot of fun and the CM and NSG were big surprises.

Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • 2004 Domaine Leroy Bourgogne 91 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne

    In this lineup, the wine had the best nose of fabulous spice and tart red fruit along with dried roses. The palate exhibited the most green notes and was a bit thin by comparison.

Flight 2 (1 Note)

  • 2004 Domaine Leroy Vosne-Romanée 95 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

    Dark fruit, loads of spice and the most polished and balanced of all the 04 Leroys we drank tonight. Smooth and integrated texture. Dark fruit, spice and dried flowers. Lots of spice on the palate and finish. Really something.

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny

    The surprise of the night, unfortunately to the negative. Initially this was closed and angular on the nose and palate. Slowly more sweet red and blue fruit emerged with a back drop of spice. No green-ness. Medium finish with nice grip. This was getting better but for 3 hours it lagged the others.

    Surprise in the lineup. Sweet red fruit, forward perfumed nose of dried roses, hint of spice and more red fruit. Light and pretty but powerful on the palate. The most ready of the group.

    Relative to the other bottles this was most consistently good throughout the four hours we drank it. Very bright, forward, energetic. Great forward fruit on the palate. It was a bit more green than the VR and CM in this lineup. Long finish. Great grip and racy character.
