Introduction
Another of an occasional series - I usually get to the tastings but only create the story if there was something noteworthy. This time all the wines had been open for about four hours by the time we got there, though they were all still relatively cool.

Lovely selection of sauterne. the Sigalas was in a great place and the Guiraud was very, very good. The Rieussec is still a puppy. I kind of like it.
2009 Château Cantegril Sauternes
France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
Medium plus aromas of lemon and orange peel, slight spice and slight apricot compote. I also get a touch of wood glue in here. In the mouth, though , the wine is sweet with slightly anonymous and jammy stone fruit joined by a spicy finish. It's all a bit cloying. Hmmm

2009 Château Gravas
France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
Medium minus aromas of muted apricot, and a slightly meaty/gamey quality. It's a also a little bit oxidised I think. In the mouth the wine is sweet, with medium minus flavours of orange marmalade, slight cream and vanilla…simple, muted, hmmm

2009 Château Sigalas Rabaud
France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
Cream, vanilla, butter, muted orange, brioche and touches of nutmeg. In the mouth the wine is sweet with favours of citric orange and orange marmalade, cream brioche, medium body, medium plus flavour intensity, rich, balanced with a lick of acidity to offset the sweetness, medium plus length. very nice indeed

2009 Château Suduiraut Lions de Suduiraut
France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
Apricot, spice - almost touches of white pepper - orange and orange blossom. In the mouth the wine is sweet but a little cloying and the fruit is less evident here. Perhaps it just needs time? Not for me.

2009 Château Guiraud
France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
Toast, apricot, orange marmalade, spice, cream, vanilla. In the mouth there are touches of pastry, sweet apple and apricot flavours, and the wine finishes with a little spiced phenolic grip on the palate. Still a puppy but nice.

2010 Château Rieussec

Blousy and overblown, lots going on…All over the place and very youthful. It's like all the members of the orchestra are playing a slightly different tune at the same time. It has the elements to be very good but there are still jarring against each other. Come back in three years.
