    France, Champagne

    Tasted blind: Nose of Granny Smith Apples and Caramel. The wine is very fresh, elegant and long. Still on the youthful side with a nice acidity. No hurry to drink.

  • 1989 Joseph Perrier Champagne Cuvée Josephine 89 Points

    France, Champagne

    Tasted blind: Golden in color. The nose had quite a Madeira touch as well as ripe apple notes. There was quite a bit of Sweetness, but overall the wine was short and had some tartiness to it. Also I felt it was one dimensional. It feels that this specific bottle was past its peak.

  • 1994 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut 92 Points

    France, Champagne

    Tasted blind: Initially the nose had quite green notes and was very earthy. After 30minutes in the glass it started to open and develop nice apple and bread notes. Overall this CdC 94 has plenty of power, a great length and is complex. At the moment just a bit dominated by acidity. Give this wine a good size glass (whitewine glass) and let it breathe for 30min as it kept on developing in the glass. At the end there were wonderful Caramel notes...Drink now - 2022.

  • 1990 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon 96 Points

    Tasted blind: Wow...one can say it is love at first sight. A true beauty with enormous depth, grace and elegance. Nose showed flavors of white tea and mint notes, caramel and apples. The acidity is so nicely integrated in the wine. One feels the higher dosage but this helps this wine to stay fresh. I would have never guessed to have an almost 25 year old Champagne in the glass. As a growers Champagne fan I am still always stunned that DP can produce millions of bottles of such a superb quality. Great wine. Drink - 2025+

    Note: Perfect bottle stored since release in natural cellar. So for old Champagne (even more than for reds) storage conditions are the deciding factor...

  • 1993 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon 91 Points

    Tasted blind: In itself a wonderful wine, but comparing it to the DP 90 in the glass next to it... a whole different story. The nose is dominated by apples. Overall the wine has a great length, is balanced, powerful and elegant. I am missing a bit the complexity. Overall, I can say the 1993 Champagnes don't disappoint but one just notices the limitations of the vintage. Drink now.

  • 1989 Veuve Clicquot Champagne Brut Rosé Trilennium Reserve Cuvée 95 Points

    Tasted blind: This was a stunner from the get go. Nose of iodine, oak and caramel. Wonderful balance between acidity and sweetness (reminds of a bit of sweet Cider). A very 'winey' Champagne with great length, elegance and character. I never heard nor tasted this wine but I must say it was superb and I hope I am able to find a few bottles to put in my cellar. Drink now over the next 10 years.
