Exploring Spanish wines from Bodegas Valduero of Ribera del Duero. Paired with local "tapas" aka Dim Sum.

  • NV Bodegas Valduero Ribera del Duero Sobresaliente

    Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero

    Straw yellow colour. Light delicate fruits on the nose. On the palate, light, crisp, and refreshing citrus and tropical fruits. Easy quaffing. 9% alcohol only. Ideal aperitif to start an evening of wine. Unique Albillo varietal.

  • 2011 Bodegas Valduero Toro Arbucala Esencia Joven

    Spain, Castilla y León, Toro

    Appearance is clear, deep intensity, purple colour.
    Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of licorice and minty leafiness.
    On the palate, medium acidity, high tannins, full body, medium finish. Little or no oak influence. Flavours of licorice, spice, fruit-forward blackcurrant and blackberries.
    Quite a generic tasting young wine without much character. Meant for drinking young and with food.
    And seriously, the winemaker Yolanda said she drinks this in summer with ice and a pinch of sugar added.

  • 2009 Bodegas Valduero Ribera del Duero Crianza

    Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero

    Appearance is clear, deep intensity, purple going to ruby colour.
    Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas of vanilla oak and licorice.
    On the palate, medium acidity, smooth fine tannins, full body, medium+ finish. Flavours of milk, dark plums, blackberries. Nothing too complex here.
    Drinking well now already.

  • 2005 Bodegas Valduero Ribera del Duero Reserva

    Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero

    Appearance is clear, deep intensity, garnet colour.
    Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with a complex aged bouquet of soy sauce, tobacco, and incense.
    On the palate, medium+ acidity, smooth fine tannins, full body, long finish. Flavours of dried prunes and sour plums, with just a hint of spice. Oak nicely integrated already.
    Early maturity now. Secondary and tertiary notes here. This is not a wine for the fans of primary fruitiness.
