Dinner at Brett and Carol's

Introduction

Brett and Carol had us over for a wonderful dinner of mussels and grilled porterhouse steaks along with sautéed mushrooms, grilled asparagus and sweet potatoes. Food was great and lots of fun was had.

  • 1985 Carl Sittmann Oppenheimer Sackträger Beerenauslese

    Germany, Rheinhessen

    The cork was completely soaked through. Very dark in color. Looked almost like a bourbon. Oily and sweet with some apricot and nutty notes. A little tired but still interesting and fun. Out hosts said it lacked the zip that previous bottles showed.

  • 2012 Tablas Creek Patelin de Tablas Rosé

    USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles

    Pale copper, orange color which mad me think Provence before I knew what it was. Crisp and dry with light berry notes. Went well with mussels cooked in the wine with garlic, onion, celery, pepperoni, spinach and fresh parsley.

  • 2010 Williams Selyem Pinot Noir Weir Vineyard

    USA, California, North Coast, Yorkville Highlands

    A big, bold pinot, with lots of dark fruits, earthy accents, some cranberry and orange rind on the finish. Lots of structure. I have one more bottle that I will open in about five years. Ann didn't like this much.

  • 2010 Carlisle Zinfandel Rossi Ranch

    USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley

    A big, rich wine with darker, blacker fruits compared to the V Sattui. Some licorice notes. Went well with grilled porterhouse steaks. While I don't drink much Zin anymore, this was fine tonight.

  • 2007 V. Sattui Winery Zinfandel Black Sears Vineyard

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Howell Mountain

    A little leaner and more red fruited than the Carlisle Rossi Ranch. Some leathery, tobacco and cedar notes and a bit of mint/licorice.
