Introduction

The theme was 1985 Bordeaux. The wines were double decanted and consumed over 4 hours.

Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • 1985 Château Cheval Blanc 94 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

Interestingly, compared to my last bottle, tonight this seemed to need more time. Still wonderful. Epic wine.

Flight 2 (1 Note)

  • 1985 Château Cos d'Estournel 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Saint-Estèphe

Very impressive showing tonight. Sweet core of red fruit, leather and tobacco. Some vanilla and a creamy texture. A surprise in this lineup.

Flight 3 (1 Note)

  • 1985 Château Latour Grand Vin 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Probably my WOTN. Very similar to the bottle I had in 2012. Great fruit, earth and texture. This exudes class and breed. Love the integration and seamlessness compared to the others.

Flight 4 (1 Note)

  • 1985 Château Lynch-Bages 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

This got a little lost in the shuffle. Mature red fruit, cinnamon and black fruit and earth. A bit disjointed compared to the others, but still very enjoyable.

Flight 5 (1 Note)

Flight 6 (1 Note)

  • 1985 Château Mouton Rothschild 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Very forward and fresh nose of red fruit, dried roses, earth, some earth and tobacco. Vibrant with tremendous energy on the palate. Broad in the mouth, but still holding back a bit. This is an outstanding bottle that will improve, but not sure all are such great examples. Long finish with great grip.
