This was quite an amazing selection assembled by Jan-Erik Paulson, including all-time greats such as the 1959 Mouton or 1963 Taylor.

  Oxidized sherry nose. Bubbles mostly gone. Nuts, manzanilla and some brioche. Still very drinkable.

  Very nice nose of brioche, zests. Very beautiful bubbles, nice acidity, chalky minerality, subtle shery notes. Outstanding.

  Rich nose of wild strawberry, flowers, brioche, grapefruit, even some spicyness. On the palate peach sherbet, pink grapefruit. Great.

  It is always surprising how well white Graves passes the test of time. Even smaller cuvées are very drinkable at 40, 50, 60 years of age. THis bottle was no exception: Nose of nuts, manzanilla, slight oxidation. On the palate seville orange, sherry, some minerality. Good.

  I liked this a lot. Nose of flowers, herbs. Beautiful notes of eucalyptus, mint on the palate, round and full-bodied. Great.

• 1997 Weingut Knoll Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Loibenberg 96 Points

  A huge wine, I did not remember how great the 1997 Wachau wines were. Nose of quince, apple, peach. On the palate still creamy and thick with some residual sweetness well integrated into fruit that is stil so nicely present. Outstanding.

• 1928 Château Ludon Pomiès Agassac 85 Points

  The Château was still called Ludon at the time (later changed to Ludon Pomiès Agassac and is now Pomiès Agassac). Not much left of the wine, no fruit, the acidity is still holding it together. Should have been nice 20 years ago.

  Slightly rustic, not sure whether this is down to the bottle or whether their 1959 was just not as long-lived as you would expect. The fruit was gone and the wine was pretty tart with some earthy flavours.

  Mature bouquet of pepper, herbs, chocolate. Then unbelievably elegant on the palate with sweet extracts, nuts, tobacco, vanilla, some tobacco.

• 1947 Faiveley Beaune 1er Cru Avaux 91 Points

  After a fabulous bottle of 1900 Jadot with missing label (90) and a bottle of 1937 Charmes-Chambertin from a producer (Crivelet) I had never heard of (oxidized) comes along this bottle of 1947 Jadot Les Avaux. I had not been aware that Jadot used to have bottling from Les Avoux (I have seen Hospice de Beaune élevé par Jadot), but in 1947 this enemy's to have been the case. Very little ullage in the bottle which had a very nice nose of herbs and a sweet palate of malt, milk chocolate, then some underwood. Quite agreeable.

  After a label less bottle of 1908 port (94). Nose a mélange of cinnamon, almonds, raisins. On the palate raisins, fruit cake, nuts. Great.
