    Blind. Open for two days apparently. Tangy and intense, must be an Equipo Navazos, and I think it's Manzanilla with a little bit of age, so maybe no.42? Mmm, that's ageing nicely - intense manzanilla feel with good saline tang. Intense and long. Lovely. ****

  • 2010 Viña Sastre (Bodegas Hermanos Sastre) Flavus Blanco

    Spain, Vino de Mesa

    Blind. Mid straw. Floral and aromatic. Fresh and slightly smoky on the nose. Nicely mineral. Just starting to pick up a little fat on the mid-palate with air. Lovely line. Good aperitif in to light food wine. ***1/2

  • 2009 Belondrade y Lurton Rueda 91 Points

    Spain, Castilla y León, Rueda

    Blind. Mid-straw. Richer, more of a sense of creamy oak here on the nose. Rich and rounded. Very smooth. Hint of struck match. Stylistically, this could be Burgundian Chardonnay, though it turns out to be Verdejo. Really quite impressive. This could handle some really quite rich food and saucing. ****

  • 2011 Suertes del Marqués Valle de la Orotava El Ciruelo 92 Points

    Blind. Very floral, red, a touch of whole bunch/clusters lift on the nose. Very lifted and bright. Starts to open out to a touch of pepper. Bright fresh acidity. Reminds me of Schollium 1MN on the nose, and a 2004 Rhone on the palate. Bright, vibrant, vital. Just a touch too much acidity on the palate for this to be top flight. Fascinating and very enjoyable though. A lovely surprise. ****

    Blind. Darker, a little more decayed and autumnal. A touch of licorice and balsamic. Quite floral but not so bight and floral as the El Ciruelo. Again, quite high acidity. Dense and quite long. ****

    Blind. Very autumnal and decayed. Burgundian nose. Browning to mid-garnet at the core. A touch floral but more about decay and evolution. Really quite evolved. A meaty savouriness. Gosh, 99? I was wondering about 90. I wonder whether this has seen perfect storage. Still interesting, but really pales alongside what turns out to be the 06 Burguet Favourites. If representative, very much on the decline. (*)**

    Blind. Beautifully floral and fragrant burgundy. Mid ruby, just a touch of raspberry and spice. Some Gevrey/Nuits earthiness too. Really lovely. Fragrant and lifted. Persistent. Quite bright. Lovely balance. A real freshness. ****

    Mid-gold. Quite sweet on the nose. Slightly medicinal edge. A touch of marmalade. Quite sweet — a lip-smacking quality, but not particularly rich or luscious. Maybe starting to eat its sugar. A little drier on the finish. ***
