2014 Wine Dinner at Kingston

Introduction
We drank 6 wines during the evening. 2 white wines and 4 red. The whites were removed from the wine refrigerator 45 mins prior to consumption and the reds were all opened at 5:30pm, decanted and consumed 3 to 4.5 hours after. The port was splash decanted at the end. The menu was oriented around pork. Bacon avacado salad to start, BBQ pork spare ribs as a second, pork and lamb chops with baked potato to finish. Cheese plate and carrot cake to finish it off with an Egelhoff port.
2012 Herman Story Viognier Tomboy 91 Points

The nose on this wine was my favorite aspect. There was some tutti fruiti on the nose with a little wax as well. The finish was round with a hint of acidity. There is not a lot of wood apparent. I would buy more of this wine, but would like it more if the price were lower.

2005 Dönnhoff Norheimer Dellchen Riesling Spätlese 93 Points

Drank blind and most picked it as a German riesling. However, most people thought it was a younger wine. This has a lot of life left in it. It is a very delicate and enjoyable wine with hints of pineapple and tropical fruit on the nose. The finish was non-confrontational and left me wanting for more.

2011 Nicora Grenache Euphoric 92 Points

Opened three hours prior to consumption and decanted. It was doing pretty well, but still a little tight. Some tart berry on the nose with all-spice. Color was not that dark and looked more like pinot vs. grenache. The finish had acidity which tells me that this wine can be put down for a while. I can taste a hint of concrete which made the wine smooth and I wonder how this will evolve over the coming several years...

Decanted for 4 hours prior to consumption. Was still tight in the glass. Was drunk blind and stumped everyone. Most people got some cab and syrah in the blend, but no one nailed the carmenere which is the tell on the nose. There is that cat pee, grapefruit aspect on the nose which is distinctly carmenere. The wine is dark in color and has some old world characteristics in its style. Without the carmenere I might have guessed that this was French. The blending of pinot noir in this wine is very unique and done well. I would like to buy more of this wine.

2010 Torrin Tsundere 92 Points

Decanted for 4 hours prior to consumption. Too early to be drinking this wine, but I wanted to check in on it and I had the time to let it breathe. The cab is apparent on the nose. I was curious about the cab in this blend as I have never been a big fan of paso cab. Upon reflection I think that the cab was good, but it was the other components of this blend that really raised the overall game of this wine. This wine appeared to be a little more monolithic than the other Torrin wines I have had. Dark and staining, this wine went well with the back-end of our dinner. I will try and wait another 3 years before opening another bottle of this wine.

Quite a bit of walnut on the finish. Light and cloudy in color. Felt a little boozy, but was a decent finish to the night.
