Introduction
This event was attended by a number of small producers from Italy. For the most part they were looking for distributors in the US. Therefore, most of the wines at this tasting were not commercially available at retail. Overall I liked the Barbaresco at this tasting better than the Barolo although that could be because Barbaresco shows better when it is young and these wines were all young. Without exception they all need time to mature so I will omit repeating that in every TN.
1997 Tenuta Arnulfo Barolo 91 Points
Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
A dry wine. Burst of fruit upfront with coffee notes later. Medium to full bodied. 91.

1999 Cantine San Silvestro Barolo Patres 89 Points

This single vineyard Barolo also had sweet tannins but was not as fruity as their Barbaresco. Notes of tar and chocolate with bitter fruit on the finish. 89-90.

1999 Cantine San Silvestro Barbaresco Magno 92 Points

This single vineyard wine had sweet fruit with notes of cherry and dried plum on the finish. Soft tannins and drinkable now. 90-93.

1997 Sant' Evasio Barolo 91 Points

A nose of vanilla and oak. Spicy red fruit notes. Rounder than many other Barolo at this event. 90-92.

1998 Terre da Vino Barolo Poderi Scarrone 91 Points

This wine had very sharp tannins and a spicy herbal nose. Full bodied. Meaty fruit notes. Should be very nice some day. 91-92+.

1998 Terre da Vino Barbaresco La Casa in Collina 90 Points

A pepper and blackberry nose. Dry tannins. Bitter black fruit and a long finish. 90.
