Introduction

A formal wine tasting with the wine makers and owners.

Flight 7 (3 Notes)

  • 2011 Château Coutet Barsac 96 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac

Pears and peaches on the nose. Quite enticing and delicious. The Guiraud 2011 just sneaked past this to be WOTN - but this was still stunningly great. Smooth finish with no minerality in the finish - which is the way I like it.

  • 2011 Château Guiraud 97 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Normally Coutet beats the Guiraud but for me tonight (only by the smallest of margins through) this 2011 shone beautifully! It was the Sauternes WOTN. The only reason I should score this down at 94 or lower was its relatively dead nose with limited aromas. However, the palate won through.

Complex long finish with pear and apricots Although it begins delicately. It was heads and tails better than its 2001 brother. (See those notes.)

This is the 1st year of certified organic status.

  • 2001 Château Guiraud 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

See my notes on the 2011 brother. This was dark yellow with a hint of prunes in the nose. It did not compare to the 2011 unfortunately.
