Introduction
Peter Bourne hosted this less 'elbows at dawn' that usual tasting at his new tasing room in Danks Street.
Flight 1 - Bracket 1 - Australia (12 Notes)
The first few Australian's lacked acidity which I found problematic. Post the Coriole things started to look up a bit.
Flight 2 - Bracket 2 Italy (18 Notes)
Massive range of what's going on in Piemonte at entry level. Some very traditional (read austere and funky) wines here and some very modern (read ripe sweet fruit and obvious quality oak) with many at points between these two winemaking regimes...
Closing
A very pleasant tasting. I did the whole lot then double tasted the wines that I'd liked the first time around. The Malvira and the Vietta were my wines of the night. AS there were low numbers I got to take the last 1/3 of the Malvira home and have it with a steak, roasted veg and crispy croutons...Lovely. Of the Aussies I stray towards the SC Pannell.
2011 Galli Estate Nebbiolo Artigiano
Australia, Victoria, Central Victoria, Heathcote
Sweet plum, slight cold meat. In the mouth bitter and astringent, medium plus rough front of mouth tannin, slight plum fruit. Nah.

2012 Trentham Estate Nebbiolo Estate La Famiglia
Australia, New South Wales / Victoria, Murray Darling
Reductive note then medium minus intensity aromas of sour plum and spice. In the mouth there area touches of residual sugar initially then a little juiciness and plentiful chalky tannin but not much else.

2008 Giaconda Nebbiolo
Australia, Victoria, North East, Beechworth
Medium minus herbaceous notes, rose petal, meat and toast. In the mouth there are some plummy notes, cold meat, firm tannin and alcohol warmth intrudes with spice on the finish. Hmm. Simple needs time.

2008 Arrivo Nebbiolo

Reductive, meaty notes, perfumed, ripe cherry fruit with slight chocolate notes. In the mouth it's spiced, oaky, touch tannin, chewy alcohol warmth. Plum over cherry fruit, big, bit showy, meh.

2011 Serafino Nebbiolo Bellissimo
Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale
meaty and leathery, perfumed rose notes. Polished oak. In the mouth it's all chunky and chewy tannin and not much else going on. I'd suggest time is required here.

2012 Longview Vineyard Nebbiolo

Plum, spice, floral elements and some meaty notes. In the mouth there area flavours of plum, spice, medium plus grippy talc like tannin, ripe, quite alcoholic, big and boisterous. Mmm.

2009 Coriole Nebbiolo

Perfumed, slight red currant notes and red plum. Slightly unripe notes. Finally a little acidity! Medium plus tannin, flavours of red plum. Simple, okay.

2006 Tar & Roses Nebbiolo

Slightly reductive and earthy notes. Touches of Brett, leather and plum notes. In the mouth there is pronounced tannin over plum notes. Okay

2009 S.C. Pannell Nebbiolo
Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Hills
cream and vanilla over leather, tar and earth with time there are rose elements and the intrusion of a touch of berriness. In the mouth the wine is juicy, chewy tannin and cream notes. Slight plum with very slight encroaching bitterness on the medium plus length finish. Also there hints of alcohol heat on the finish but this is not too intrusive. Quite controlled and in balance but needs time. Rather nice.

2006 Prōterō Nebbiolo

Perfumed, quite pinot like nose with oak elements over red berry and slight leather notes. In the mouth the wine is juicy with leathery tannin, red berry fruit. Nice.

2010 Henschke Nebbiolo The Rose Grower

Candied red plum and berry, perfumed, tar notes, floral. In the mouth the wine is juicy, savoury, plum fruit, surprisingly fine tannin. Nice.
