Fresh cut grass, some herbaciousness, gooseberies, asparagus, lime on the nose. Slighly metallic, also coriander appears on the nose and palate. High accidity, even too high to my liking. Very fresh, but looses its aroma quite soon. Classic NZ SB. (B)
Well, this was the 3rd time I had it within a year and this showing was quite awquard. Previous bottles were excellent (A- shoving, best NZ SB I have had), but this had a VERY stong nose of blackcurrant bush. This aroma while pleasant was the only thing there was on the nose (and it also made the palate rather one dimensional if we talk about the nuances). Well, may be some very mild notes of exotic fruits, but only if I stretch myself. Palate was very round and mild, in a pleasant way. Nice balance, some fruitiness.
This was the last bottle in the shop, so may be there were some storage issues, hard to tell.
Nose initially of coriander, pepermint, may be dill, spices. Later on - hard candy, lemon, white flowers. Palate was rather soupy, no distinctive descriptors came to mind, somewhat inacurate. As it sit in the glass there came baking spices, (oak? - but there shouldn't have been any), smoke also came to mind - may be from lees stirring? It says, in 2011 it was pure SB with no malo and no oak, however in some previous years it was a blend of up to 60% oaked Pinot Blanc. (B-)
Less intense and in-your-face nose than NZers. But it grows into a very nuanced, detailed, quite light bouquet of florals, light pineapple, lime, lemon, hard candy. Gooseberies on the finish. Round, complex, intelectual, interesting wine. (A-)
Wow, very light colour for a 25 y.o. SB! You can hardly tell it apart from 6 y.o Baron de L. Green hues. Some damp citrus on the nose, the dampness withers away with air, aroma is light, creamy, interesting. On the palate it was creamy, nuanced, some light toastiness may be. No need to keep it that long, but if you do (in proper conditions), it will still be alive and kicking. (B+)
Light with green hues. Some mild spices, bay leaves, broth on the nose. Saturated, full taste, some citrus, lemon rind, flowery orange, grapefruit, smoky melon, saltiness on the nose and palate, very well balanced. Very difficult to describe, words don't do justice to this wine, it was superbly nuanced, ethereal, elegant. The nose was to die for, I didn't expect a SB to be that good. On that night this was may be even better than Silex. (A)
Light golden colour. Intense, interesting, clean nose of lime, citrus, lemongrass, very sweet but with perfect balance and poise, not sugary in any way, just superbly pleasant. Like a spring breeze from a flower meadow after a long winter. Hard candy, flowers, watermelon bubble gum. Exquisite. (A)
Golden yellow. Aged oak aroma, spinach, asparagus, some vegetables, pickle juice, butter, reminds of an oaked Chardonnay. Creamy, roasted nuts. May be an off bottle or over the hill. Interesting to see how a Sancerre is doing at such an age, but I wouldn't drink it for enjoyment. (C+)
