  Lots of lemon and lemon peel aromas and flavors, all very lean, edgy and precise. Lots of tension, really good overall, much better with food.

  Ripe apricot with a slightly caramelized character and more than hints of sweetness. Good concentration for its price and level. These wines have their own unique style, which will surprise anybody thinking they are about to drink a typical Viré-Clessé, but I truly enjoy at the right time and place.

  Popped and poured, consumed over an hour+ with lunch. started with lots of fresh red berry and cherry, bright and cheerful with lots of energy. Fruit picked up weight and intensity with more time in glass, then started seeming to shut down towards the very end, while still displaying significant weight. Good now, better in a few years.

  Tasting, brief note. Bright orchard fruit with good concentration,spice hints. Good length. Very good acidity and minerality, good now, better in a year or three.

• 2011 Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets

  Tasting, brief note. A more complex and nuanced wine vs the Marc Colin Caillerets 2012 jut tasted, this shows lots of green and yellow apple with sublte tropical hints. Very good density. Very good now, but with the concentration and structure to age gracefully for a decade+.

  Tasting, brief note. Moderate citrus and orchard fruit, better spice. Elegant and nicely lean styled wine, good now, probably best in the next 5 years. Moderate depth.

  Tasting, brief note. A big step up in quality vs the (good) PYCM St Aubin just tasted. More concentration and fruit intensity, as well as structure and nuance. I often find PYCM wines reductive to start, but this bottle had been open earlier in the day, and was showing perfectly.

  From magnum, popped and poured, consumed over ~1 hour. Cross-section of cherry aromas and flavors, no surprising a little firm today, but with lots of elegance and good mouth feel. Cellar at least a few more years.
