Introduction

all Wine Septet members showed of course.
Mati was very generous to share the great 1989 Haut-Brion, as well as 2004 Chateau Montrose.
Yoram seconded with a worthy 1996 Haut-Brion and 2006 Bahans Haut-Brion.

  • 1989 Château Haut-Brion 96 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

    Popped and poured, followed over the course of the evening.
    An incredibly complex nose. Typical great Bordeaux: blackberries, olive brine, graphite, herbs, light mint, dried tobacco.
    Full bodied, heavy integrated tannins, excellent acidity level, balance & harmony; rich, powerful, flavours of tart red fruits, blackberries, mineral, smoke and tobacco, rounding out the incredibly long finish.
    Completely seamless, high level of intensity, elegant, almost understated.

  • 1996 Château Haut-Brion 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

    Pop & poured.
    Deep opaque red purple
    Nose of fresh red and black plums, complex but not yet integrated.
    Full bodied, grip tannins, good acidity level, rich, still austere, graphite, pencil lead, dark cocoa chocolate, powerful, solid finish.

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

    Shiny transparent deep intensity ruby colour
    Medium intensity, developed aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, plum, cedar, earth & chocolate
    Full bodied, firm tannins, medium acidity, ripe and well-integrated, medium intensity, flavors of blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, cloves, smoke and coffee. Medium length finish.

  • 2004 Château Montrose 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Saint-Estèphe

    Dark red-purple-black
    Classic Medoc aroma with notes of black fruit & leather.
    Full bodied, firm tannins, high acidity, well structured, black fruit, leather, cedar and some green veggies. Enjoyable finish.

Closing

The wines were excellent, though the grilled steaks aroma shaded the great wines aroma & greatness.
Not to mention the high cost of the meat...
