2006 Champagne Tasting ( wines)

I recently attended a retailer tasting of some Champagnes with a few members of the CWM. The tasting was only $5. They were pouring some nice stuff. The only bottle I missed which I wish I could have gotten to before they ran out was the 1998 Dom Perignon. Here are my notes.

  No formal notes. 86-87 points.

  This was sweet tasting and a little too much as far as I was concerned. Baking spices and apple notes. 86-87 points

• NV Piper-Heidsieck Champagne Cuvée Sublime Demi-Sec 87 Points

  France, Champagne

  One of the sweetest Champagnes at this tasting and not really my style. Full bodied. Not very effervesent. Notes of pear and a a lush finish. 87 points.

• NV Moët & Chandon Champagne Nectar Imperial 90 Points

  France, Champagne

  Mostly Chardonnay. This was one of the sweetest Champagnes at this tasting but that is expected from this wine. Notes of asian pear and cookie dough. Very nice if this is your style. 90 points.

• NV Veuve Clicquot Champagne Brut 89 Points

  France, Champagne

  Made with both Premier and Grand Cru grapes. Light bodied. I thought the fruit could have used a little more stuffing but a very good sparkler nonetheless. Good bead. 88-89 points.

• NV Moët & Chandon Champagne White Star 87 Points

  Sweeter than I expected. White fruit notes and a solid bead. The finish was a bit short though. 87 points.

  France, Champagne

  Both of the PJ wines at this tasting were showing very well. Fizzy but well balanced. Clean with a fruity texture. 90 points.

  A very appealing nose. Notes of apple and toast. Nice round wine. 89-90 points.

  I liked this just about as well as the version I had in 2003. A consistently good Champagne. No formal notes. 89 points.

• NV Louis Roederer Champagne Brut Premier 92 Points

  France, Champagne

  Another one of the better sparklers at this tasting. Round with very good depth. A supple texture with fresh baked bread notes. 92 points.

  I was unpleasantly surprised by this wine. I think it got a good score from WS. I found this to be almost semidry in style and a little too fat. 86 points.

  50% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 15% Pinot Meunier. Dry texture with notes of peanuts and crisp apple. Light bodied. 89 points.

  France, Champagne

  Much better than the version I had in 2003. Very good complexity. Apple and some tropical notes. Great value as well. priced at $20 at this tasting. 90-91 points.

  I liked this slightly better than the regular blue top brut. Everything was just ratcheed up a bit. 91-92 points.

  A straight laced almost austere style but very pleasing to my palate. A nutty nose. Notes of almond paste and white fruit with a dry finish. 90 points.

  First time I have had this bottling and I was impressed. Notes of spiced apple and bread dough. Medium body with a long finish. 93 points.

  One of the better sparklers at this tasting. Rich texture. Notes of bread dough and tart fruit. Long lush finish. 93-94 points.

  France, Champagne

  This was 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. Medium to full bodied. Notes of apple and bread dough with some nuttiness on the finish. 91-92 points.
