2007 François Raveneau Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 97 Points

A bit closed at the moment, has lost the floral intensity of its youth and needs 3-5 years more to shine again in maturity. After a few hours in the glass and as it reaches room temperature, it opens up beautifully. Intense and tightly wound, deeper and more energetic than the 2004 that accompanied it, wonderfully harmonious, rich but fresh as a mountain stream, seamless and long.

Lighter than the 2007 that came with it; classic Raveneau Clos profile in a cool and mineral rendition, pure and precise but without the intensity of the best vintages, elegant and linear however and drinking beautifully. Will age for a few years more but is now at peak.

Mature appearance; very classical nose, mature, open yet subtle, fragrant, smoke and roses, deep and vinous, harmonious, nice tertiary development; the palate has an almost savoury quality, ripe acidity, firm but ripe tannins, slender and elegant but no lack of weight, perfectly balanced, redcurrants and cranberries; excellent length, just a hint of cold tea. No need to wait any longer.

Half bottle. Wonderful orange gold colour; fabulous nose of crystalline purity, spices, honey, peach, apricot, flowers, Alpine herbs; very sweet but with the acidity to balance it, very concentrated and rich but remarkably elegant, salty caramel, fudge, floral topnotes, peach; outstanding length.
