Introduction

Our second appointment of the day found us in Santa Rosa at a custom crush facility where we met Phoebe Bass of Ceritas Wines. She took us through the facility to their little slice of heaven where she had set up a tasting for us. Phoebe was an absolute delight. We had a wonderful time talking with her and hearing all about what she and husband Jon are doing. The wines are stunning, and I cannot wait for our first offer.

Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • 2012 Ceritas Chardonnay Charles Heintz Vineyard 93 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

Bright yellow with a green tint. Aromas of lemon blossoms, apple, wet stones, lemon cream and white peach. Minerals abound on the palate, with orchard fruit and citrus nuances in the background. Terrific finish. All their whites are aged in neutral French oak. An impressive start to the tasting. 93-94 pts.

  • 2012 Ceritas Chardonnay Porter-Bass Vineyard 94 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

Again, just a slight green tint as young Chard often has. A knockout bouquet of popcorn, honeysuckle, apple, toasted nuts, hazelnut, flint/smoke and graham cracker. Full-bodied yet bright and elegant featuring flavors of lemon chiffon cake, Bosq pear, mineral, green apple, honeysuckle flowers and shale. Wonderfully long finish with lemon, honeysuckle and mineral tones. Terrific acidity; balanced and long. Back up the truck. 94-95 pts.

  • 2012 Ceritas Pinot Noir Escarpa Vineyard 94 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

Made since 2007 from a cool site in Occidental from old Swan clone vines. Bright ruby color with notes of black cherry, damp forest moss, clay and what I can only describe as what I imagine a redwood forest might smell like. I love this and could bury my nose in this glass all day. Medium-bodied with flavors of black cherry, clove, white currants and florals. Picks up a terrific mineral/limestone streak on the long, balanced finish. Absolutely gorgeous. 94+ pts.
