    Spain, La Rioja, Rioja

    Medium tawny color. Inviting nose of sandalwood, spice, dark fruit. Body has some weight, but seems very light. Great acidity. Some plum notes on the palate with spice (oak). Quite a nice nose, but palate is in decline.

    Yum! My wine of the night. Very complex nose of red fruit, cedar, drop of soy, spice, and on and on… Very soft, faded nearly absent tannin; fairly high acid. Cedar and spice.

    Quite juicy, ripe cherries on the attack, but quickly fades and becomes drying with very little finish. Sadly, this bottle's best years are behind it.

  • 2002 Olga Raffault Chinon Les Picasses 91 Points

    My best experience with wine, as the ripe, fruity cab-franc half of this Jeckyll-and-Hyde seems to be maturing and yielding to its more serious, herbal other half. Another several years may yet resolve the split personality that has been my issue with this wine.
