Flight 1 (6 Notes)

Nice event leaded by the International commercial & marketing manager of Maison Philipponnat, Anthony de Boysson

  • NV Philipponnat Champagne Royale Réserve Brut

    France, Champagne

    Third part of PN.
So easy reading the back level.
    Light golden colour.
Three years in winery with 'a solera system'. 37% of the wine is coming if their reserve.
Fragrant, mineral and pastry shop but fresh cause that Chardo.
More a wine than a champagne with a high acidity.
Disgorging on last March of 2013.
It was been a nice meet with an old friend.

    3/4 PN
    Ligero color dorado.

    France, Champagne

    A pale salmon colour.
More sugar and on for this coupage.
Complex on the nose but without however elaborating further.
Light, easy drink. Too much predictable. Basic and calling for food.

Demasiado perfectible. Básico y llamando a la comida.

  • 2004 Philipponnat Champagne Grand Blanc

    France, Champagne

Eight years resting in the winery.
Obviously pure Chardo on the nose. Brioche and, with time, coffee beans.
In the mouth is very short. Nice bitterness at the end, pretty typical for a BdB.
Just need more time or a Benedictine eggs dish.

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

70% PN. Seven years in the winery.
    Richly mineral on the bose.
Spiced, balanced with aromas of dried fruits. A little metallic, a defect?
Dense mouthfeel but very very short at the same time.
Needing time in my modest opinion.
Its future can not be seen.

70% PN. Siete años en bodega.
Ricamente mineral en nariz. Especiado, equilibrado con frutos secos. Es un poco metálico, ¿un defecto?
Denso en boca pero muy muy corto. Necesita tiempo en mi modesta opinión. No se dislumbra su futuro.

  • 2004 Philipponnat Champagne Brut Clos des Goisses

    France, Champagne

A serious example but with a recent disgorging, February 2013.
A brilliant golden colour is showed.
It hadn't an explosive nose but an austere one, liquor-like but with secondary aromas of minerals, pretty complex, intellectual even, I mean, it has been resting for ten years in the chateau developing a fragrant nutty perfume.
Magnificent on the palate. Very long and tasty with notes of toasted bread and oxidised elements.
I think it worth to have a couple of bottles to let them rest for thirty years, why not?

  • 2005 Philipponnat Champagne Sec Sublime Reserve

    France, Champagne

Thirty grams of sugar. Totally Chardo.
    Disgorging on last April 2013.
More a curiosity than anything else.
Intoxicating aroma of refined sugar with a shortie palate yet surprisingly balanced.

  • 2010 Emidio Pepe Trebbiano d'Abruzzo

    Italy, Abruzzi, Trebbiano d'Abruzzo

Natural wines? I don't like them, naturally. There are exceptions but this is not one of them.
Smelling like a drainpipe at the beginning, supposed mineral with air. Ximenez-Spinola remembering.
Very thin in the middle of the palate. Short yet with a bitter finish.
Complicated to repeat again. A pity cause there're some nice reds.

¿Vinos naturales? Naturalmente no me van.
Final corto aunque amargo.
Complicado repetir de nuevo. Una pena porque hay algunos tintos ricos.

  • 2009 Guido Porro Barolo Vigna Lazzairasco

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

    Beauty Nebbiolo colour. Typically discoloured.
Easy Barolo in every sense: lovely mix of asphalt, cherries and violets aromas on the nose.
Palate had a soft tannic drop, uncomplicated to face it.
Good but I would like something more complex... At this stage even.

  • 1994 Gaja Barolo Sperss

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

Too far for a 94. That's it all.
Still a pitch-black colour. Tons of sediments.
Oxidised notes with a found of violets.
Lean on the palate, little sour and pretty short for a Sperss.
More than a deception a wine that everybody has to taste one time in life, even at this point.
A hoary bottle? Maybe but still drinkable, digestible and profitable.
