Introduction
One of my favorite producers in Cote de Beaune and another educational visit tasting an increasing cross-section of Puligny-Montrachet.

Tasting at domaine. Apple everywhere. Open and fleshy with acidity on finish. Very easy to enjoy. Racked, but not yet bottled.

Tasting at domaine. Racked and sulfured, ready for bottling. Apple and pear with good fruit and density for its level.

2013 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Puligny-Montrachet
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
Tasting at domaine. Racked and sulfured, will be bottled soon. Big fruit, mostly apple, with good concentration for Villages level. Forward and easy to start, moderate length, slightly bitter hint at finish.

2013 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru La Pièce-sous-le-Bois

Tasting at the domaine, Racked and sulfured, getting ready for bottling. Has the weight and heaviness I often find with young Blagny, with that same slightly one-dimensional mouthfeel. Less precise fruit vs the Puligny Villages.

2013 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champs Canet

Tasting at domaine, ML almost complete. Nice cross-section of apple aromas and flavors with good density, good length. Has the same faint bitter hint at the finish as the Puligny Villages, but I don't expect that will last.

2013 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Garenne

Tasting at the domaine. Racked and getting ready for bottling. Lush, powerful and very pleasurable. Very well textured, good length. I definitely preferred this over the Champs Canet just tasted.

2013 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chalumeaux

Tasted at the domaine. Racked and getting ready for bottling. First vintage of this wine that had been sold previously to negociant. These are also the oldest vines belonging to the domaine, that were the first Paul Pernot himself planted when taking over a few years back. They were also the second set of vines he planted the following year after rabbits ate them that first year. Large scaled wine with good complexity, density and power, while maintaining good finesse. Worth seeking.

Tasting at domaine. This had just been racked. Apple and lemon, good spice, lots of engaging minerality and salinity. The Pernots naturally expect this will show better in a few weeks or months giving its recent racking.

Tasting at domaine, this had also just been very recently racked. Fatter, rounder and less chiseled vs the Folatieres. Apple and pear coming through, also showing the slightly dulling effect from having just been racked.

2013 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet

Tasting at domaine, not quite done with ML. We were told this is almost always the last wine to finish ML. Its current state made it tough to fairly assess, but clearly displaying very good concentration, the best of the 2013 lineup.

2013 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Bâtard-Montrachet

Tasting at the domaine. Ripe and fairly lush character, much like the Pucelles but with greater concentration. Very good, but not the most nuanced or elegant vintage for Pernot's Batard-Montrachet.
