  • 2012 Oyster Bay Chardonnay 85 Points

    New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough

    Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour. Legs.
    Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of toasted oak, and citrus fruit. Youthful.
    On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium alcohol, light body. Medium- flavor intensity, with flavours of dominant toasted oak, and some citrus fruit - lemon and lime.
    Acceptable quality. Okay quaffable oaked Chardonnay. According to producer, no malolactic fermentation. Drink now, not suitable for ageing.

    Appearance is clear, deep intensity, garnet colour. Long legs.
    Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas leaping out of the glass - mint, eucalyptus, ripe blackcurrant jam, peppery spice. Developing.
    On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, high alcohol, silky velvety high tannins, full body. Pronounced flavor intensity, with flavours of mint, eucalyptus, ripe blackcurrant jam, blueberries, and peppery spice.
    Good quality Barossa Shiraz. Rich, ripe and jammy, but good mouth-feel and approachable tannins. Can drink now, and will continue to improve slightly over the next 3-4 years.

    Appearance is clear, deep intensity, garnet colour. Legs.
    Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of toasted oak, sweet blackberries and blackcurrant, dried leaves. Developing.
    On the palate, medium+ acidity, medium+ alcohol, mellow medium tannins, full body. Initially tasted tired and had a sour taste on the finish. However, after 1 hour in the decanter, this sour note disappeared and the wine seemed to come to life with more freshness.
    Medium+ flavor intensity, with flavours of toasted oak, sweet blackberries and blackcurrant, blueberries, prunes, dried leaves, graphite, and hints of chocolate. Pleasing mouth-feel. Long finish.
    Outstanding quality Aussie Cabernet Sauvignon that has lasted 24 years. I find it hard to predict how long more this wine could go. A very interesting and complex profile.
