Introduction

Jordi assembled a fantastic range of old Cathiards and got twelve of us together, including Jasper Morris who gave some introductions, for an amazingly extravagant meal at La Trompette. The highlights were the perfect 1949, a stunning pair of 1978 Vosne her crus and some lovely 76s. Towards the end was a quartet of Romanée St Vivants which, sad to say, I wasn't sober to give the appreciation they deserve, thought the 99 still shines in the memory.

with roast sweetbreads, shaved cauliflower, fresh almonds, crisp potatoes and parmesan

with glazed shoulder and leg of Welsh lamb, turnips and summer savoury
