Introduction
The Westin St. Francis has a Montelena tasting room in its lobby. After my meetings I popped in for a quick tasting of their current releases.
2012 Chateau Montelena Sauvignon Blanc 85 Points
USA, California, Napa Valley
Lots of melon with almost a strawberry sweetness to it. It had some grassy flavors, but this was more about tropical fruit than anything else. Tasted good, but lacked complexity.

2011 Chateau Montelena 40th Chardonnay Vintage 84 Points

Pretty decent. Has nice weight and density of flavor to it. My worry about this is how absolutely anonymous this wine is. Sure it tasted ok, but this could have been anything from anywhere.

2011 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon Calistoga 88 Points

Liked this a lot. 2011 is being shit on by anyone with a pulse, but in an age of overripe/warm napa cabernets, this is a pretty nice vintage to have. This wine had a lot of spice, mint, dark fruits, and smoke. The acidic tinge to the finish is probably what turns off Napa cab freaks, but I think it gives it nice balance.

2010 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon The Montelena Estate 88 Points

By far the youngest Montelena Estate cab I've ever had. It's a big boy with lots of tannins, dark fruits, some mint, and earth. I've heard good things about this vintage so my fingers are crossed that it'll approach the 1993/1997. That would be sweet.
