Boerne wine club - Chassagne vs Meursault vs Puligny

We took on white burgundies today with a focus on three classic villages: Puligny, Chassagne and Meursault. We opened with several wines from elsewhere in the Cotes de Beaune.

• 2011 Louis Jadot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Garenne Domaine du Duc de Magenta

  Typically a wine I've enjoyed very much, but at a very awkward stage right now. Light straw colored, nice bright citrus and green apple flavors, but with a very smoky, oaky finish - like American oak which was a bit off putting at this stage. Maybe this will come around better? Clearly could stand some more time.

  Lovely.
  Bright mouth-coating pear flavors; fairly fat, but with enough acidity to cover. I quite enjoyed this.

  gorgeous (group's overall #2). Bright, mouth coating mineral and peach flavors. Plenty of time.

  I like this wine (# 3 for the group) with some still bright flavors, but seems to be starting to fade a bit. I would drink up.

  some very over ripe, almost sweet aromas and flavors, almost raisin, with bright vanilla notes. A bit awkward, but I like it.

  Very tart, very bright lime fruit. I rather liked this, but very, very young, and would love to try this again with more time. (my #2)

• 2010 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chevalier-Montrachet

  Gorgeous. Nearly unanimous WOTN.
  dense, full flavors of citrus, grapefruit, mouth coating, but with beautiful balance. A real treat, beautiful right now.

A thoroughly enjoyable tasting. Nary a bad wine in the group. The Chevalier Montrachet was the clear winner, but it was supposed to be. Otherwise the Chassagnes seemed to be the group favorites with the two 2006 Chassagnes being the groups #2 and 3 (they were also the two oldest wines in the tasting). The wines generally showed nice bright citrus and minerally flavors.
