    Double decanted 7 hours before tasting... Tight bouquet showing some new oak. The palate is really fleshy with tarry notes and big, soft, round tannins. This was monolithic and came across as too creamy despite some ample acidity. Not sure how to read this, but stylistically it seems like an outlier, only similar to the 09 Cantemerle. Score based on current consumption only: 87pts (?)

    Decanted 5 hours earlier... Savory nose, tight on the palate, seems to have a better balance than the 2010, but still fairly ponderous compared to other vintages. Hard to read.

    Nice, in a deeper pitch than the Cantemerles so far. Good bouquet, deep attack with nice fruit. Good balance, a little foursquare still and it might not have tons of depth, but has upside. I will revisit in 5 years.

    Savory nose, with cranberries. Quite bright on the palate, tart and soft, tannins resolved. Still, aromatic and pleasant. A better showing than some recent bottles, but still quite mature and borderline lean at this stage. Others felt is was in fine shape. Showed much better with food.

    Lovely, classic 1996 claret filled with wood smoke, leafy scents, cedar, and lead pencil. Lots of cool, smooth fruit, good balance, lively acids. Drinking very well right now. Much better than other bottles sourced recently at auction, which are drying out. 92+pts.

    Deep, mature, classic claret bouquet with spices, cranberries, cigarbox. Perfectly balanced with a steak, plenty of pitch-perfect fruit to go with ample brightness and a silky texture. Mature yet vigorous. My WOTN.

    Mature, smokey, notes of iron and cedar. Firm yet open, drinking fine if lacking a little pizzazz. 87-88 pts

    Distinctive nose of wintergreen, lovely style, light yet intense. Very nice, hanging in there with minty fruit and a great plush/smooth finish. Nearly as good as the 82 Lagune tonight, good showing.

    Lovely, mature, but still showing good fruit, this was an excellent bottle. I think these should be consumed sooner than later.

    This had a dank, musty, sulphurous nose that I had trouble getting past, but the palate was all 1979-Bordeaux, with smoky scents, zippy acids and dark fruit. A 90 point palate.

    Scant notes here, but a lovely, lively wine still showing nicely. Very much in the same style as the other Cantemerle, with a herby note, cranberries, elegant and feminine texture, bright acids, and some dark-colored depth.

    This had a mid-shoulder fill and it showed on the nose which was semi-oxidized with stewed notes, but the palate still had plenty of oomph with good fruit. On other nights, I would drink this. Pristine bottles must be exceptional.

    This didn't get the attention it deserved, but that said, this is another 2001 Sauternes that has turned the corner into full mid-maturity. Lots of oyster shell, honey, and caramel, very nice, but seems a bit plodding right now.
