An interesting sparkling made from Sangiovese with 12% ABV. Brought by a friend who import San Patrinano, to start as the aperitif for today's lunch. It is definitely a good Start and pair very well with Parma ham & melon ball. Fresh refreshing nose of flora, apricot and hints of toastiness. Very pleasant, with citrus fruits and peach on palate. It has crisp acidity and finishes clean. Not a complex or serious sparkler, but pretty decent and no one would have thought this is made from Red grape varietal and unlikely to be picked up from blind tasting.
** The grapes are picked about 2 weeks before the traditional harvest time of Sangiovese and are strictly vinified in white to avoid the extraction of the color and the tannins from the skin. **
Note: There is no Sangiovese available in the variety selection and hence white blend was selected.
Brought this bottle to the lunch because I like to see how it progress after I got it 4 years ago. Bright ruby red, clear with glossy hue. Fragrance nose and classic expression of Italian Sangiovese, lots of sour cherry, dark cherry interwoven with earth and leather. Polished and elegant, with a nice smooth and silky palate, showing great purity of fruits. But it is still a little tight on palate after few hours of bottle breath. It has lingering aftertaste with fine and ample tannins. Already very good now and structure started to soften, but it will continue to improve and gain more complexity. Give it another 3-5 years.
Pop and pour and the wine is still warm and pungent, but showing rich dark fruits, plums and strong Cabernet and Merlot character. Drank over the next 1+ hours and it has gradually evolve to show black berry, chocolate, earth, some plummy and rustic character. The palate also soften and a little lack of substance on mid-palate. Chewy tannins and medium finish.

It has a powerful nose, although a little pungent and young when pop and pour, but it shows classic Brunello character of dark cherry, smokey oak and leather. Full bodied and austere at the moment, still young and structured, exhibits sour cherry, plum, leather and spicy oak. Good powerful finish with a firm tannic core. Drinking well now and it should continue to improve over next 5 to 10 years. A pleasant surprise for such an underrated vintage. Casanova di Neri Tenuta Nuova is one of my favourie Brunello and their basic white label Brunello is equally impressive with a good QPR
