Same NV sparkling with 10-20 y.o difference

Compared three pairs of NV champagne and one pair of cava with 10-20 years of difference.

  20+ y.o bottle.
  Usual old champagne colour, still some bobbles remaining, but they are quite small in size and number. A very cider-like taste, apples, light notes of nuts, slight bitterness. Probably the weakest of the old NV we had on that tasting. (C+)

• 1998 Juvé y Camps Cava Brut Nature Reserva de la Familia Gran Reserva 89 Points

  Spain, Cava

  Wow, what a pleasant surprise! Quite similar colour to 2009, but as expected very different aromas. This had oxidative character, some jerez notes, creamy, aroma of the sea, meat, oak, somehow reminded me of Spanish white wine. Good. (B+)

• 2009 Juvé y Camps Cava Brut Nature Reserva de la Familia Gran Reserva 87 Points

  Light, a bit creamy nose. Starts with citrus on the palate, midpalate of bread and butter, long finish with some sligth bitterness. Quite good and with its own character. (B)

  Light colour, lots of big bubbles. Nose of coconut oil, apple compot. I rememeber loving it. Very good showing on that day. (B+)

  20+ y.o bottle.
  Intense yellow colour, few bubbles. Strong oxidative character, some rotten apples, yeast, rye-bread, dried plums, acacia (?), vegetable cellar. Peculiar, would be better 5 years ago.

• NV Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée 91 Points

  Bottle from end of 90s.
  Intense yellow colour, small bubbles.In the beginning there were some damp notes on the nose, but it wasn't corked, it withered away after some 15 min in glass. Caramel on the nose and palate, creamy, intense, but balanced, very long finish. Beautiful showing. (B+)

  Creamy, tender, lots of different shades to it. Interesting note of fresh milk on the nose. Nice development in the glass. (B+)
