Very fine indeed! and at 28 bucks, the best deal on high end chards I found on this trip. Go buy yourself some, californians! This has a lovely nose with an little bit of a lot of things - apple wedges, lemon ice cream, raw, coarsely chopped hazelnuts, and it is very fresh and elegant.
Has a lot of zin berry preserves but not overly jammy, dry and quite fresh on the finish - not overly alcoholic either for cali zinfandels at 14,3% but there is quite a bit of heat on the palate which detracts from the overall impression.
If you like big frame syrahs, this is your thing. Perhaps the winemaker's roots from down-under express themselves through his cali shiraz? It's nice and has good nose and good acidity, but also, like the other red wines at this estate, some heat on the finish.
This is made from 67 % cabernet and 33 % syrah from the same syrah as goes into the cuvee ellen. Once again the nose is fine and complex and the freshness is there, it's just a rather big and forward wine with a little bitter tones from the oak on the end of the finish.
