There's a appealing earthy tone that lies under the lemon, toasty notes here. So much going on on the palate too, which carries richness and depth and development. The acidity which is not overdone keeps everything in check.
Slight bricking. Nose of red flowers, cherry and herbs. The palate is elegant, mid weight, smartly checked with acidity and integrated, fine tannins. It's drinking well now.
Decanted about 2 hours. That seemed about right for this bottle. Typical claret with cassis, pencil lead, cedar and black and red berries. The mid weight palate is beautifully balanced. I detected a hint of Brett here, to which I can be quite sensitive. However in this case it seemed to enhance the overall experience. ('Good brett' if there is such a thing). Leather, earthy, medium spice. Finishes long and gently.
Blackcurrant, spice, chocolate, violets. In the mouth, it's beautifully plush. Not too young, not too old. Mid to full weight, it carried a great mix of fruits and acids and oak, all integrating in balance. Drinking at a peak now, and should hold.
Complex already. Orange blossom, honey, cumquat, grapefruit. Palate reveals some cinnamon and spice too. Sweet but finishes dry, with nicely balanced acids. Perfect with a cheese course.
