  France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc

  Light yellow. Quite fragrant and floral. Citrus, pear, a dab of oak, excellent acidity. Excellent Bourgogne.

• 2012 Marc Colin et Fils Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Combes Blanc

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru

  Medium yellow. Aromatics dominated by sulfur. Leaner and more angular than the Bourgogne but some citrus, soil and vanillin. Better than it smells, but a bit hard now.

• 2012 Marc Colin et Fils Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Montceau Blanc

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru

  Light yellow. A bit of tropical fruit followed by lemon. Lighter weight, also fairly lean with powerful acidity but very nice inner mouth herbal/floral complexity. A pretty wine that is more forthcoming than the St. Aubin Les Combes.

• 2012 Marc Colin et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet Les Encégnières

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet

  Medium yellow. Richer, riper nose than either of the St. Aubins. More obvious wood but not overdone. Elegant weight that balances texture and restraint. Bright orange fruit, dry mineral finish, good length. Classy village Chassagne which should have a broad drinking window because of its superb balance.

• 2012 Marc Colin et Fils Saint-Aubin 1er Cru

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru

  Light red. Spice and briary red fruit. Fairly round entry with good stuffing for a St. Aubin. Anise, tart red fruit, high acidity, and gripping tannins. In a word, not for current drinking, probably better in a couple of years after it has smoothed out the rough edges.

• 2012 Marc Colin et Fils Santenay 1er Cru La Comme

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Santenay 1er Cru

  Light red. Much more florality and crushed herbs than the St. Aubin. Light, supple, spicy red berry fruit admixed with soil. Excellent acidity, lower tannins than the other red, moderately long finish. This is lovely to drink now and an altogether well done minor commune Premier Cru.

Higher quality for both whites and reds than I recalled or expected. It looks as though 2012 will offer a lot of attractive wines in both colors, just as 2010 did.
