Introduction

After a long day of surfing, I got together with some great friends for a seafood grill and wine dinner. Nothing incredibly complicated, we grilled veggies, shrimp and steamed some grouper. The wines were a mix from all over, but all of them welcome additions. Great times on the beach, despite the rain.

    France, Burgundy, Crémant de Bourgogne

    Crisp and mineral-driven, a bit less depth than the earlier bottles I've tasted. The dinner group enjoyed it and I thought it paired really well with some grilled shrimp and steamed grouper.

  • 2013 Bonnet-Huteau Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine sur lie Les Gautronnières 87 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine sur lie

    Nose of green pear and crushed chalk. Crisp on the palate but good body, lively acid. The pear and apricot fruit is tangy but ripe and the minerals rush in with notes of saline and oyster shell. I'm really enjoying 2013 Muscadets so far.

  • 2009 Paul Dolan Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc "Organically Grown Grapes" 86 Points

    USA, California, North Coast, Mendocino County

    Crisp, clean, lots of apricot, green melon and honey notes. Not very herbal, this takes a more tropical approach but it's still zesty.

  • 2013 Glen Manor Vineyards Morales Rosé 86 Points

    USA, Virginia, Shenandoah Valley

    Lots of strawberries and watermelon, this is crisp, quaffable but showing some interesting elements, including roses, saline and some subtle spice. Paired well with a variety of grilled seafood and cheeses and the whole crew loved it.

  • NV Whitecliff Vineyard Awosting White 82 Points

    USA, New York, Hudson River

    Honey and kiwi on the nose and palate, with some white pepper and spice elements. Crisp, a bit sweet, fun and crowd-pleasing stuff, but not complex. A blend of Vignoles and Seyval Blanc.
