NDP 2014 celebration at Davyd's place. Complete with a feast of food and fireworks from the parade.

• 2012 Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils Chablis 1er Cru Vaillon 93 Points

  France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

  Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour. Thin legs.
  Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of salty seawater and seaweed. Developing.
  On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium- alcohol, medium body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of sea salt, limestone minerality, citrus lime, and a very slight smokiness. Clean, crisp and linear. Long finish.
  Very good quality. Paired nicely with fresh oysters. Can drink now, and will also develop well over the next 5 years.

• 2004 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 92 Points

  Appearance is clear, pale intensity, golden yellow colour. Legs.
  Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of honey, toast, and nuttiness. Developed.
  On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium- alcohol, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of honey, toast, nuttiness, butter cream, citrus lime and limestone minerality. Long finish.
  Very good quality village level. Rather complex and developed now. Drink up. No need to hold any longer.

• 2011 Yarra Yering Pinot Noir 95 Points

  Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley

  Tasted blind.
  Appearance is clear, pale intensity, pinkish-garnet colour. Legs.
  Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of violet florality, honey, light toasted oak, and red fruit. Developing.
  On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium- alcohol, medium- tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of strawberry, cranberry, vanilla, sweet licorice, and some minerality. Rather complex like an Old World Burg, but showing elements of New World Pinot. Interestingly tastes more mature than than 2011.
  Outstanding quality again from Yarra Yering. Very good now. Why wait?

• 2004 Faiveley Mazis-Chambertin 95 Points

  Tasted blind.
  Appearance is clear, medium intensity, garnet colour. Legs.
  Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with a complex bouquet of dark cherries, touch of green herbaceousness, tea leaves, spice, earthy loam, toasted oak, saline minerality. Developing.
  On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol, fine medium+ tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of dark cherry, touch of green herbaceousness, tea leaves, spice, earthy loam, salty minerality. Long finish.
  Outstanding quality. In nice drinking window now, but will integrate further and develop over the next 8 years.
  Green-meanie not rearing its ugly head here, though the touch of greeness is there.

• 2004 Faiveley Latricières-Chambertin 90 Points

  Appearance is clear, medium intensity, garnet colour. Legs.
  Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of green herbaceousness, spice, and earth. Developing.
  On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol, drying medium+ tannins, medium body. Medium flavour intensitiy, with flavours of tea leaves, earthiness, spice, and the green herbaceousness. Not sure if the fruit is sleeping or just not present. Medium finish.
  Good quality overall, but pretty disappointing for a Grand Cru. Greeness is evident here.

  Appearance is clear, medium intensity, garnet colour. Legs.
  Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of tea leaves, earth, toasted oak, and a green herbaceousness undertone. Developing.
  On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium alcohol, dry puckery high tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of dark cherry, tea leaves, earthiness, toasted oak, and the persistent greenish undertone. Long finish.
  Good quality Grand Cru. A bit off-balance now with the dry high tannins. Maybe another 5 years will do this some good. Greenish note is evident here.

• 2011 Escarpment Pinot Noir Kupe 92 Points

  Tasted blind.
  Appearance is clear, medium intensity, purple colour. Legs.
  Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of sweet licorice, violets, vanilla oak, baking spice, and red fruit. Youthful.
  On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ alcohol, medium+ tannins, medium body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of red cherries, strawberries, sweet licorice, baking spices, vanilla oak. Medium+ finish.
  Straightforward and nice, but not much depth. The 2009 vintage tasted better.
  Very good quality NZ Pinot Noir. Too young to drink now, maybe another 3-5 years will let this integrate better.

• 2005 Lloyd Brothers Shiraz White Chalk 91 Points

  Tasted blind.
  Appearance is clear, deep intensity, inky garnet colour. Legs.
  Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas of blackberry jam, sweet corn, licorice, and spice. Developing.
  On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, high alcohol, smooth well-integrated high tannins, full body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of blackberry jam, licorice, black pepper spice. Medium- finish.
  Very good quality McLaren Vale Shiraz. Quite balanced and good mouth-feel. Just lacking a bit towards the finish.
  Nice to drink now. Could develop a little bit more over the next 4-5 years.

• 2010 d'Arenberg Riesling The Noble Wrinkled 91 Points

  Tasted blind.
  Appearance is clear, pale intensity, gold colour. Thick legs.
  Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with lovely aromas of marmalade, butterscotch, honey, sweet glue, and a bit of petroleum.
  On the palate, sweet, medium+ acidity, medium alcohol (12.3%), full body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of marmalade, butterscotch, honey, apricots. Medium+ finish. Clear botrytis character.
  Good quality sweet wine. I would have liked more acidity and complexity, but overall still very enjoyable, and what a lovely nose. For a moment, I felt like a glue sniffer.

The 2004 Red Burgundy vintage does indeed have the green character everyone is talking about.
