  • 1990 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Gallina di Neive 91 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco

    Comes alive and gains weight with a bit of air. Red sour cherry, earth, nice acidic bite, iron/iodine character. Exceedingly tannic. Good stuffing, but not fully revealing itself yet. Others preferred this.

  • 2000 Roberto Voerzio Barolo Brunate 92 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

    Unabashedly modernist, yet unmistakably Nebbiolo. Dark mulberry color. Super-concentrated and dense without any undue extraction. Licorice, plummy fruit with a better edge, nutmeg, and earth. Grippy tannins give it impressive staying power. The texture started to fall apart after ~90 minutes of air, but right up my alley until then.

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

    Quite nice. Extraordinarily potent, focused raspberry fruit--probably the purest helping of raspberries I've ever had in a wine glass. Very refreshing acidity and a zesty, Pop Rocks texture. A little spice and florals. Impressive flavor:weight ratio. Sexy and polished enough to delight non-Burgophiles like me; alongside the typicity and class that Pinot hounds look for.
